Those who are melanated

have been abdicated 

for far too long

Given up the responsibility

to care for it's melanin 

naturally 

for way too long 

It's almost like we've abandon it

to sacrifice going along 

We've failed the basic duty 

of providing for the melanin 

that needs light and nutrients 

forever more 

It's a lie for those who tell 

big white lies like we are all the same 

becos we bleed monotone 

the truth is beyond farfetch

Without Melanin, there wouldn't be streetwear.

Many non-Black brands such as BAPE and Supreme knows that. The clothing brand, Supreme was founded by James Jebbia, an American-British and has made a fortune, talking multi-millions from the brand. In his early 20's he moved back to NYC, where he was born, after being raised in England. In the in the early 90's. he opened up his first store. Although, Supreme was marketed as a skater shop, what took off and set the trend was and remains street wear. Hip Hop Icons like Nas and Travis Scott wear this brand because they're in fact: Supreme. 

Supreme means high in power and degree. Melanin is water down to just focus on contributor factors to eyes, skin and hair. But it serves a much greater purpose then what is advertised. Melanin is ranked the highest in the sense of having a higher concentration amount compared to counterparts and that is why many, many brands rely on black spokesmen and spokeswomen. If you ask AI if Supreme clothing profit more from skateboards than streetwear, they'll confirm that Supreme sells far more streetwear than skateboards despite, Supreme regular weekly online drops releasing skateboard decks and hardware. 

After 2 decades, Erin Magee, Supreme Chief Creative Officer is exiting the building and joining another famous culture vulture family dynasty brand, SKIMS by Kim Kardashian. These brands have a get rich quick strategy that consist of monetizing on the Melanin representation while avoiding true authentic inclusion. For example Magee also has their side hustle brand which is tailored to the punk, alternative demographic but tries to submerge this "subculture" into the streetwear urban fashion scene. 

This highly executed marketing approach has been going on since the beginning of urban wear but regardless of what brand it is; what makes it is melanin representation. Because without Melanin fashion couldn't  stand a chance. Melanin is beyond eyes, skin and hair. Melanin is a whole wholesome internal navigation that exhumes creative flows that really is endless and it shows by the countless of streetwear and urban fashion who profit when joining the melanin representation to sell their brand bandwagon. 

Melanated is activated

Oh, can't you tell

it gets energized

when the sun meets your eyes

initiates the turn on button 

set off to start the day 

becos the melanin has been electrified 

and this switch can happen to anyone

but those with melanin 

it penetrates a lil deeper becos 

it further stimulates 

Melanin vitalizes

like trees and flowers do to 

the environments 

like a healthy breakfast 

do to the calories in the body 

But being melanated also has a downside 

it can get triggered

that strong negative reaction that overtakes 

your emotions on any event 

becos the blueprint that carries in the continuous flow of 

which is stores and because melanin activates like charcoal 

it gets intense and that's when sh*t get real

don't understand the emotions 

when you are melanin driven

WE NEED TO BE ADVOCATED

Advocated 

not by those who are the oppressors,

or their descendants,

but by the same scope—

melanated advocates,

melanin concentrated,

go hard like stone.

Let it be shown

that melanin can be seen,

but the depths of it

is also known.

Known to the core 

they can't erase,

through folklore they buried

and stories displaced.

who broke barriers in the sky,

to Katherine Johnson

calculations that helped spacecraft fly.

We know the depth

behind the skin we wear.

We know the ancestors

who carried burdens

they never should have had to bear.

Melanin can be seen—

but don't mistake visibility

for understanding.

There is knowledge in our roots,

power in our culture,

and generations of brilliance

standing behind every face.

We are not asking to be discovered.

We are saying:

LOOK CLOSER.

Because melanin

can be seen,

but the depths of it—

are also known.
