What primary determines hue man beings skin make up is Melanin. Melanin is the prime determination of the skin tones of people of color. People that do not have black or brown skin or dark dominating eye color or hair color does not have a good source of Melanin production thus, not only having lighter skin but skin that is highly sensitive to the source of Melanin energy which is the Sun.
Melanin isn't only responsible for the pigmentation on natural black,
brown or colorful hue's. There is EuMelanin of the skin and Melanin of the Brain. There is also Melanin in the iris and in the inner of our ear.
Our whole body functions on many different dark matters of Melanin. Your skin hue getting browner or darker is Melanin in the Skin and this is just one attribute of Melanin.
There is Skin Melanin but there is also another
form of Melanin that is important to the overall brain functioning. This Melanin is called, Neuro-Melanin.
Having a conscious, being humble, naturally happy and even when you feel bad because of something you did, this Brain Activity or Brain Melanin is called Neuro Melanin.
Neuromelanin is also a dark pigment that is present in pigmented neuros. The center control that groups other parts with the central part.
Whites of all ages are more than twice as likely than darker pigment people to have hearing loss. This is due to the lack of Melanin. They comprise 90% of the population who suffer with hearing loss. According to the aging society, amongst the population with hearing loss, only 39% are in good or excellent physical health.
Round the web:
Without melanin coating the inside of your eye and throughout the iris,
images passing through the pupil would "bounce" around and form a
"fuzzy" image on the back of your eye; this is why people with albinism
have poor eyesight. Read more here

More on Melanin: Hair Color
The most common hair color all over the world is black hair, no matter where in the world or the people ethnicity. Colors associated to black hair is almost infinite! Black hair is similar to Black or Melaninated people natural hair texture (& skin complexion while I'm thinking of it) being that it's not only the most common color but also the darkest & strongest.
Black hair is the shiniest hair and has the thickest hair strands. These amazing benefits are due to the dominated gene trait of Melanin! (If you ain't know, now you do!) Black hair or darker hair colors have the largest amount of the two types of Eumelanin, black and brown.
My natural hair color is super brown or black and I loved it! But one day I thought I just wanted to switch it up and dye it lighter, less bold, maybe blonde!? (I thought). But after doing it twice myself at home, it wouldn't get lighter! I was like why is my hair so dark that it won't turn yellow?! This is why. I get it now, do you? How can you make something that has the upper hand or predominate secondary? If black color is the commander in chief how can I (or should I say why) would I want it lesser? I now (and have been) love my hair color because people do love it like I love it! I always get told how nice and thick my natural hair is and how beautiful it is.
When I found out this information or enlightened by it, I was amazed and then I thought no wonder it's so admired! It's Imperious! We should be arrogant about it and consider it Earth Royalty! Yeah, black or brown color! All together, skin color, hair color & texture! Know the damages done to your hair when bleaching it or artificially dying it? It's dangerous, basically, strips all your natural away! Is it worth it? Nope, but I understand wanting to switch it up so use Henna hair dye or other herbal dyes instead!

From the Temple of Kali: Melanin
Originally, we all had brown eyes but a genetic mutation affecting the
OCA2 gene in our chromosomes resulted in the creation of a "switch"
which literally turned off the ability to produce brown eyes. This
explains why some people may have blue eyes. They had a genetic deficiency
of the OCA2 gene codes for the so-called P protein which is involved in
the production of melanin, the pigment which gives color to the hair,
eyes and skin.
The evidence of black, brown or red hair, eyebrows and eyes is evidence of pigmentation and melanin production. Skin color, or the lack thereof, is only one factor.
As far as another post concerning "darkness" is concerned, when one is in "darkness" that is to say in the state of "sleep", this actually stimulates melanin production. Lack of sleep results in the opposite effect and hinders the functionality of the thyroid and pineal glands, along with the pituitary.
